| I have an undergraduate degree in Journalism and am a licensed Masters in Social Work. I have worked in the field of human services for 20 years. In that time, I have worked with various populations-MH/MR, drug & alcohol, children and youth, women and children, and the elderly. I did policy and systems work for many years and returned to school to obtain my Masters in Social Work (MSW) in order to change the focus and scope of my work to a more clinical, client-centered framework. In my 20 years of being a mental health professional, I have obtained various certifications.
Currently, I am a college professor in the Social Work department of a local college. Teaching is the joy and passion of my life. Being a part of the learning community and grooming the next generation of social workers is an honor and a privilege. Being a professor and a therapist are a natural fit for me. In my practice, I employ mindfulness techniques and cognitive awareness as a base to start the therapeutic relationship. The same can be said for entering a classroom on the first day of class, the need for mindfulness and cognitive awareness are integral to a successful semester. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is one built on trust and collaboration. The process of learning in the classroom requires the same trust and collaboration. |
As a consultant for several home health care agencies, I assist with developing standards of care for the clients that they serve, as well as making sure from a psychosocial perspective the clients are receiving the care that they need. I sit on the advisory boards of each agency and attend regular board meetings. I have served as the editor of The Clinical Voice, a statewide newsletter for the Pennsylvania Society for Clinical Social Workers (PSCSW). I am also a member of the National Alliance of Black Social Workers as well as the National Association of Social Workers.
In my spare time, I work as a freelance editor. Traveling and cooking are two of my favorite pastimes. I am a licensed, Masters level social worker. I like staying busy as it keeps me happy and healthy.
